After years of waiting, Sonic the Hedgehog 3 came to cinemas on Friday, December 20th.

As seen in the end credits of Sonic The Hedgehog 2, Shadow the Hedgehog has been awakened and found. He will be the main villain in this third installment of the series. Dr. Eggman was defeated with the help of the Chaos Emeralds, Tails the Fox, and Knuckles the Echinda. Now, in this film, Team Sonic has been notified that there is a new, incredibly strong entity in Tokyo, and the government needs their help.

Let’s recap:

Shadow the Hedgehog was created by the infamous character Gerald Robotnik. Fifty years ago, Dr. Robotnik made a deal with the alien Black Doom. The deal was that Dr. Robotnik would create “the ultimate life-form” with Black Doom’s alien blood. Once the creation was done processing and strong enough, Black Doom would take back the creation and use it for his own army, the Black Arms. Sonic The Hedgehog 3 unfortunately does not seem to include Black Doom in the movie, but most of Shadow’s backstory from the spaceship and the Space Colony ARK hopefully will be.

In the games, Shadow the Hedgehog had grown up in the Space Colony ARK, partnering side-by-side with Dr. Robotnik and his granddaughter Maria. Suddenly, an alien invasion occurred on the research facility. G.U.N., also known as the Guardian Units of Nations, had fought back against the aliens, but unfortunately failed. Before the facility had been completely destroyed, Maria had sent off Shadow to Earth to protect the planet. In the main story, Gerald Robotnik had passed away along with the others, but as seen in the trailers, Dr. Robotnik has seemed to partner with Dr. Eggman and will be fighting against Team Sonic.
