Going into the 2024-2025 season, I had high expectations for the Knicks. They had finished 2nd in the Eastern Conference the year prior and made it to the semifinals before getting eliminated by the Indiana Pacers.
The only reason why the Knicks were eliminated was because they were hanging on a thread. Almost the whole entire team was playing injured or were not playing due to injury, and when star point guard Jalen Brunson was taking out of Game 7 of the Semis due to a wrist injury, it was clear the Knicks did not have the energy to defeat the Pacers and move onto the next round.
The Knicks needed to find a way this offseason to improve their bench options in case of injuries and also improve their overall team.
So the Knicks swung a trade for star center Karl-Anthony Towns, one of the most injury prone players of the last couple years.
That trade surprised me, even though I knew it was coming, it still surprised me.
To improve their injury prone squad, the Knicks acquired an injury prone player. Don’t get me wrong, Towns is an amazing addition, if he is healthy.
So when the Knicks started off the season around the .500 mark, I believed it was because of KAT.
This trade ruined the chemistry and defense of the Knicks and now they were going to barely slip into the playoffs.
But I stand corrected.
As of Feburary 3rd, the Knicks have a record of 32-17 and are 3rd in the Eastern Conference with Jalen Brunson and Karl-Anthony Towns being named All-Star game starters.
The Knicks went from being a discheveled and uncoordinated squad to being one of the most feared offenses in the league.
If the Knicks keep it up, they will easily make the playoffs and could quite possibly making it farther than they did last year. As a Knicks fan,
I have a lot of love for this squad but also a lot of faith in them because I see the potential. If the Knicks can get a couple of defense pieces before the trade deadline on 2/6, then the Knicks will be a serious threat. That’s a phrase I never thought I would be able to say.
