What is senioritis? A lot of seniors in high school may know this term very well, I know I do. I am currently a high school senior and I have experienced senioritis, but I have found ways to help me continue to stay motivated. This term is brought up a lot especially in the last few months of school leading up to graduation. What’s not brought up is how to combat it.
Senioritis is a term used to describe a decline in motivation and effort, often experienced by students nearing the end of their academic careers in high school, college, or graduate school. The stress and workload of previous years can lead to a sense of exhaustion and disinterest in academics. Major life transitions, such as moving to college or entering the workforce, can lead students to focus on their future rather than their current academic responsibilities.
This feeling can also lead to a decrease in academic performance and an increase in absences from school, which needs to be addressed. We are at the end of our high school careers, you should not risk not receiving credit for a class, just because you don’t want to go to school. Even though school is ending, the last couple months are crucial. In May there are many important final concerts for band, dance , and chorus. There are finals, regents, and Ap tests that are crucial. You need to focus on these grades so you can get the credit you deserve.
Remind yourself that completing coursework is not just about the final grade, but also about the knowledge and skills you’re gaining. Break down large assignments into smaller, manageable tasks to avoid feeling overwhelmed. Finally, Ensure you get enough sleep, eat well, and engage in physical activity to maintain your mental and physical well-being. You can even talk to friends, family, or a therapist about your feelings of burnout or lack of motivation. You can do this.
