Horror has been doing really well. They have had major success critically and have made a load of money.  From the monster success of IT and Split to the critical praise of 10 Cloverfield Lane and Get Out. Horror has been one of the dominant genres for the past few decades and one of the franchises leading the way is Cloverfield.

The first film in the Cloverfield anthology series (an anthology is where the movies are part of the same series but they have no connection think Black Mirror) centers on a group of kids trying to survive a city under attack by a bunch of monsters. The second movie, 10 Cloverfield Lane, takes place in a bunker with the characters trying to figure out if the world is really under attack by monsters. Than there is Cloverfield 3 which is set to release this year  which is going to take place on space station and during an experiment gone wrong the earth disappears. Those are the three we know about, but could there be a fourth. All of the Cloverfield movies thus far have been major successes so a fourth one would make sense. Now you may think that it’s possible that they just started planning it or maybe they are in pre-production but what if I told you they could have already filmed it?  J.J Abrams the man who is in charge of the Cloververse has a movie in development called Overlord. It tells the story of American paratroopers who jumped into a Nazi occupied village and find something they’re not supposed to see. Now that sounds like a Cloverfield movie to me. Also this seems like it could tie in with the idea of monsters and disappearing earths also the idea of this being a period piece could be amazing. Overlord also has a release date of October 26 which is six months after Cloverfield 3’s release date and if Marvel can release Ant-Man and The Wasp two months after Avengers Infinity War, then they can release Cloverfield 4 six months after releasing 3.

Cloverfield is one of the best and most interesting franchises around right now. It really pushes the boundaries for “low” budget horror movie. Now these are just rumors but looking at the plot of the movie, and the secrecy around the film, it would not be a surprise to see Cloverfield 4 coming to theaters very soon.
