Actor Mark Salling died Tuesday January 30th. He was 35. He was most known for his role as Noah “Puck” Puckerman. The cause of death was reported as a suicide. Salling was awaiting his prison sentencing which was only weeks away after he plead guilty to possession of child pornography on October 4th, 2017.

Attorney Michael Proctor confirmed Salling’s death. “I can confirm that Mark Salling passed away early this morning. Mark was a gentle and loving person, a person of great creativity, who was doing his best to atone for some serious mistakes and errors of judgment.” Salling was pronounced dead at 9 a.m. He struck a plea deal and was supposed to be sentenced in March and was expected to face up to four to seven years in prison.

Salling had to register as a sex offender and enter a treatment program after federal investigators found more than 25,000 images and 600 videos showing underaged pornography. He was arrested in December 2015 after his former girlfriend called the police on him. They took the laptop and USB drive that contained the unsettling images.

The victims of Salling may not get the restitution by Salling’s estate. In December, Salling was ordered to pay $50,000 in restitution, which is a payment to the victims for the harm that has been caused. However, criminal defense attorney Troy Slaten explained how the victims can sue the estate for the restitution. “Any victims can sue his estate in civil court and receive monetary awards for damages,” he said. “Because he entered a plea of guilty, the victims don’t have to prove liability in civil court, the only issue is how much in damages.”

His death has sparked mixed emotions from both Glee co-stars and fans. Most of the Glee family has remained silent so far, besides a few including Matthew Morrison and Jane Lynch. Lynch told TMZ “It’s tragic and I’m broken hearted over it.” Vocal coach Tim Davis also commented on his passing writing, “Today we lost another Glee cast member. Yes, he committed crimes against children. Yes, it was horrific. But Mark Salling was a broken man, no doubt an abuse victim himself.” Many fans also took to Twitter and Instagram to share their condolences for his family and how they’ll miss his character. However, they expressed their opinions. Some saying he “took the easy way out” or that he shouldn’t be compared to co-star Cory Monteith who died in July of 2013 after an accidental drug overdose. Other Glee members have yet to comment on his death.
