Climate Change on Mother Earth

In honor of Earth Day, April 22nd

The Earth has been around for billions and billions of years, even before the existence of mankind, but now that we inhabit this planet, massive changes have occurred. Before our existence, the earth was full of trees, and animals were not going extinct. It’s astonishing how it was able to live on its own; however, when we came to this planet we started to harm it instead of nurturing it.

The temperature of the Earth today has been rising rapidly due to the extreme use of plastics, pollution, greenhouse gases and other raw materials. The Earth’s temperature rose from 0.6 to 0.9 degrees Celsius (1.1 to 1.6° F) between 1906 and 2005, and the rate of temperature has been increasing and has nearly doubled in the last 50 years. The burning of fossil fuels has a massive effect in the change of temperature on Earth and the future of the Earth is becoming hazy. If we had not interfered with the natural equilibrium of our planet, the temperature of the Earth would have been a frigid -18°C;  however, we have a warm 15°C (59°F) today. We did not only harm it, but we continue to take actions everyday that slowly destroy the Earth and now we are finally facing the consequences.   One example would be how we lost the world’s last male northern white rhino, and now the future of this species is no longer certain. Scientists are now trying to bring back this species and plan to achieve this with the use of insemination.

As humans, we tend to create the problems and instead of stopping, we try to find alternative solutions that may help but in the long run ends up making it worse or does not have an effect at all. How long will we let mother earth suffer? This is a question where the majority says “not long anymore” but in reality we often wouldn’t sacrifice anything to help our planet.

The decision of President Donald Trump to leave the Paris agreement on climate change made it worse.”We’re getting out,” Trump said during an event that was in the White House’s Rose Garden. President Donald Trump also stated that the Paris Agreement was just a hoax or it was just made up by China, however this belief  is contradicted by scientific evidence. Paris Agreement on climate change is cutting emissions and keeping the Earth’s temperatures from increasing more than 2 degrees Celsius above the pre-industrial levels. The decision of President Donald Trump to leave would make it even more difficult due to the country’s impact because of the massive land and population it has.

The cycle of life goes on, on Earth even without the existence of humans. As the saying goes “The Earth does not need us, we need it”
