The all new iPhone X. What You Need to Know

On September 12, 2017, Apple revealed its tenth edition iPhone, the iPhone X.  During the first iPhone presentation, Steve Jobs said, “ Today we’re gonna show a software breakthrough. A software that is at least 5 years ahead of what’s on any other phone.” Now Apple has claimed to have done it again, with their newest product.

As Apple’s most anticipated product of the year, the iPhone X had plenty of thought and time put into its development. It has a completely new design with glass on the front and back of the phone, like the Samsung Galaxy S8. The front of the phone is almost bezel-less, the first iPhone to do so. Around the edges of the phone is a surgical grade stainless steel. The phone is water, scratch, and dust resistant with a new display. This display is called the Super Retina Display. It is 5.8 inches on the diagonal with a resolution of 2436 x 1125 which means that is over 2.7 million pixels on your display!

Combined with the display is an all new OLED technology, making the display even more vibrant in its colors. Eddy Cue stated that it was the first OLED good enough to be in an iPhone. With the front being virtually bezel-less, Apple removed the home button and replaced it with swipe gestures to navigate around the phone. For example, to go home you swipe up from the bottom. The side button is also another way to interact and use other features such as Siri. With the removal of the home button meant the removal of Touch ID.

However, Apple solved this by creating the all new Face ID. This feature allows you to just look at your phone and unlock it. It won’t unlock unless you are giving it attention, meaning if your eyes are closed and you look at it, it will not unlock. This raises the chances of a stranger unlocking your phone from 1 in every 50,000 to 1 in 1,000,000. And this also new addition brings the new Animoji, an emoji animated to your face movements.  The Face ID will also work with Apple Pay and third party apps just like Touch ID did. The iPhone X also has a 12 megapixel dual camera on the rear with optical image and video stabilization. The iPhone X will also have the ability to wirelessly charge. Finally, it has a 6 core processor running on the A11 Bionic Chip. It will cost $999 and will be available for pre-order on October 27, 2017, and will launch November 3, 2017, with IOS 11.

This was Apple’s latest iPhone reveal, showing some promising things.  Tim Cook, CEO of Apple, ended the event with the following words, “Some inspiring words from Steve, ‘One of the ways that I believe people express their appreciation to the rest of humanity is to make something wonderful and put it out there.’, we work really hard at Apple to create really wonderful things, and we hope you love what we introduced today. I think Steve, would be really proud of them.”
