The movie “It” has taken the cinema industry by a storm, making over 123 million dollars in just the first weekend of its box office release. As soon as the release of the first preview on May 3rd, 2017 appeared, it was the hottest topic of conversation. Within the first couple weeks of it being released, it had already broken many records. This famous movie had originally been brought to life by a book that was written by Stephen King. Even Though the book seems fictional, it was actually based on a real life killer clown named John Wayne Gacy also known as the Pogo the Clown. Up to present time, directors had already made two movies on the book “It”.
There were differences though between the original and the remake of this movie. One of them being that the original took place in the 1950’s, but the remake took place in the 1980’s. The gist of this story is in a town called Derry, every 27 years a spirit that comes from the sewer takes the form of Pennywise the clown. Pennywise’s goal is to haunt all the children of this town and the kids must overcome the most important thing to Pennywise: FEAR. The main characters: Bill, George, Ritchie, Betty, Stanley, Mike and Eddie must overcome their fear and defeat Pennywise before they float with the children. However, this movie changed how people viewed clowns forever. Not only did this instill fear into the crowd watching the movie, but a study showed that this movie caused people to have a bigger anxiety when facing real life clowns. Looks like we might be seeing a few clown costumes around this year for Halloween!
