Loungin’ With Lara- The Perfect Halloween Movies for Your Perfect Halloween Movie Night
October 26, 2020
Halloween is just around the corner, and of course everyone needs some Halloween movies to watch as it approaches. I have gathered four movies to create a personally-recommended Halloween movie compilation for everyone to watch and enjoy. These movies range from over the span of three decades. One of the movies is from the 80’s, two are from the 90’s, and one is from the early 2000’s.
Hocus Pocus
“Hocus Pocus” is a movie about three Salem witch sisters who were brought back from the dead by three children on Halloween, and try to navigate a way to obtain youth and immortality. The children steal something valuable to the witches that they need to utilize to get the youth and immortality, so they chase after the children to try and get it back. The movie was released by Disney back in 1993, and was directed by Kenny Ortega. Many interesting things the movie contains that you may like are: witches, flying broomsticks, funky spells, a TALKING CAT, a zombie man brought back to life, and so much more! “Hocus Pocus” can be streamed on Disney +, or purchased to watch. This movie is rated PG and falls under the Family/Comedy movie genres. I personally enjoyed this movie because I enjoy watching the older Disney movies from the 90s and I found it very funny and it constantly kept me entertained. The witches are hilarious. All in all, “Hocus Pocus” is an extravagantly amusing movie for all to enjoy and definitely puts you in that witchy Halloween mood!
Coraline
“Coraline” is a movie about a girl who just moved to a new house and there is a small door in her house that leads to a different world that is similar to her normal life, but different. Eventually, Coralione gets trapped in this separate world and has to try and escape by completing tricky tasks. This movie was released in 2009, based off of the book written by Neil Gaiman in 2002. “Coraline” can be streamed on several streaming sites, it can be available to stream with a subscription on some sites and you can also pay to watch it as well. It is rated PG and falls under the Family/Animation movie categories. This movie caught my attention because of the way it was animated. “Coraline” is a stop-motion picture, meaning it consists of many frames put together to make the animation and movements of the characters, almost like a flip book. I also enjoyed the storyline of the alternate world and what the world represented. All things considered, “Coraline” is a fascinating Halloween movie that will keep you hooked from the beginning with its fascinating storyline.
Beetlejuice
“Beetlejuice” is a movie about a couple, Adam and Barbara, who have passed away and are upset when a new family moves into their nicely decorated house. They attempt to get these people out of their house by scaring them, but it doesn’t work. Adam and Barbara call on Beetlejuice to help them, but he has a different idea than just helping them. “Beetlejuice” is rated PG and is under the Comedy/Fantasy movie categories. This movie was released in 1988 and was directed by Tim Burton. It can be streamed on services with a subscription, or it can be purchased for viewing. “Beetlejuice” is one of my personal favorites because of Beetlejuice’s personality. He is a very animated character who has a huge personality and is very comical. To sum everything up, “Beetlejuice” is a great movie to watch if you would like a laugh and it is plenty of fun. In addition, there are some pretty catchy songs that appear in the movie.
Edward Scissorhands
“Edward Scissorhands” is a movie about a man named Edward that was welcomed into a suburban home instead of living in his castle on a hill. A scientist was experimenting on Edward and before he could finish, he passed away, leaving Edward with scissors for hands. At first he is welcomed, but things take a turn for the worse as the movie progresses. This movie was released in 1990 and was directed by Tim Burton. It can be purchased to view and it can be viewed using a subscription on some sites. “Edward Scissorhands” is rated PG-13 and falls under the Romance/Fantasy movie genres. I enjoy this movie because of how gentle Edward was. Generally, if you think about a man with scissors as hands, you would think he would be a crazy person, but Edward was as gentle as can be, until things took a turn. In a nutshell, “Edward Scissorhands” is an interesting movie with a captivating backstory. After all, it shows how a man with scissors for hands is able to carry out daily activities!
Halloween movies are a great way to get into the spooky Halloween spirit! So, grab your candy, your popcorn, your drinks, your blankets, and your friends and family……… and enjoy your SPOOKY movie night.
