The Art Gallery of Lindy
May 7, 2021
In Lindenhurst there are a variety of many different amazing and talented artists who come together in order to create wonderful art not only for themselves but also for the community. One platform in which students of Lindenhurst can meet with one another to create art is in the National Art Honor Society (NAHS) .
When asked member Olivia Rossi what it means to be part of the club, she stated “Being in NAHS means getting to be part of a club where I can create things and get to work with others who also have a passion for art.” Before the pandemic, the NAHS would do certain fundraisers, create displays, and compete in a multitude of competitions.
This year the club decided a fun new way in order to raise money for the club, by selling the art works that they make. According to member Yan Lin, “We are selling these art pieces in the art gallery to earn money for our club and also for our own profit.” Five dollars from each art piece will go to the club while the rest of the money will go towards the artist.
Selling one’s own art can become very daunting and nerve racking for many young artists. Not wanting to set the price too high or too low, worrying if the art will be good enough that people will want to buy, these are constant struggles that the members now have to face. As Olivia states, “At first I was a bit hesitant to sell my work, even though I have always wanted to.”
On the other hand selling art work can lead to more youth getting to experience what it is like to be an artist as a career and it also gives them a chance to show what they can do. “I’m happy to be able to share my art with everyone and it’s exciting to know that other people can see what I have made.” Yan Lin goes on to say, “It allows for an opportunity to showcase what we are able to create.”
Many artists have their own way of coming up with ideas in order to create their art work. Yan Lin for example takes her inspiration from music or webtoons which she reads and tries to express a certain emotion or feeling to invoke the viewer. Olivia Rossi however uses art as a therapeutic medium finding inspiration in everyday life.
The art works that the club is selling range from sewn objects to watercolor paintings. All of the art works being sold are stunning and all the profit made is going either to the club or the artist. If anyone would be interested in purchasing some art, you can visit this link to get to the website.
