As everyone knows, this year for the 2022 Met Gala, Kim Kardashian walked down the red carpet in Marilyn Monroe’s famous dress. Monroe wore the dress as she sang “Happy Birthday” to President John F. Kennedy, in 1962. This of course had struck up controversy from everyone. Many people were upset at the fact that this dress, which had only ever been worn by Marilyn herself, was taken out of a vault to be worn by a reality star. 

    It’s been six decades since Bob Mackie (the designer of the dress) drew up the sketch for the original design, and he describes it as “alarming”, saying no one else should have been seen in it. Mackie was 23 years old when he sketched the original design for the dress and says the gown was created specifically for Monroe to wear when she performed Happy Birthday for the President on May 19, 1962. “I thought it was a big mistake,” he told Entertainment Weekly. “[Marilyn] was a goddess. A crazy goddess, but a goddess….It was designed for her.     The Marilyn Monroe fans weren’t the only people angry at Kim Kardashian. Kim made headlines after the Met Gala for saying she lost 16 pounds in just three weeks to fit into Marilyn’s dress. She talked about the extreme diet and exercise plan she did every day to lose the weight and a lot of people took it the wrong way. “I would wear a sauna suit twice a day, run on the treadmill, completely cut out all sugar and all carbs, and just eat the cleanest veggies and protein.       Kim Kardashian is one of the most followed celebrities in the world. She has 312 million followers on Instagram and lot of young people look up to her. So when she talks about losing that much weight in such a short amount of time to fit into a dress, people may think that’s normal. Kim has yet to speak on either controversy surrounding her wearing Marilyn’s dress, however the dress is back securely in the Ripley’s museum in Orlando.
