Madame Web: What We Should Know

Madame Web: What We Should Know

Upcoming movie, Madame Web, will hopefully be seen in theaters on October 6, 2024. Madame Webb/Cassandra Webb was introduced in the 1980’s comic, The Amazing Spider-Man #210. Madame Webb is known to be a clairvoyant (psychic). In the film, Cassie is a paramedic that develops her psychic powers, and seems to be always crossing paths with three women. These women are soon after introduced as Mary Parker, Mattie Franklin, and Julia Carpenter.

All of these characters come from the same comic series called Earth-616. Mary Parker, is the mother of Peter Parker, wife of Richard Parker, and a CIA agent. Mattie Franklin had her first full appearance in The Amazing Spider-Man #441, and is also known as Spider-Woman and the niece of J. Jonah Jameson. Julia Carpenter, first appearing in Secret Wars #6, is known as the second Spider-Woman, the second Arachne, and the second Madame Webb. It is not certain that these characters will be the identical in the movie from the comics.

As seen in the trailer, the film’s villain is named Ezekiel Sims. This man appears in a knock-off looking Spider-Man costume. This character was first presented in the 2001 comic, The Amazing Spider-Man #30. Ezekiel had the same powers as Peter Parker in the comics. He came to warn him about Morlun, a vampire who went after people who obtained animal powers. Madame Web, played by Tahar Rahim, seems to be extremely different from the comics in the film, though he still has his spider-powers and his wealth. Ezekiel Sims now has his costume, and is over the top with his villainous acts.

In summary of the Madame Web trailer, Madame Webb is obligated to protect the three women, Julia Carpenter, Mary Parker, and Mattie Franklin, from the protagonist, Ezekiel Sims’, wrath. The setting will take place in New York City, as any other Spider-Man story would. We just can’t wait for this film to be released!
