Nintendo and The Pokémon Company have announced their newest games during the Pokémon Presents February 2026 event, developed by Game Freak, Pokémon Winds and Pokémon Waves. These two upcoming games are expected to release 2027 exclusively on the Nintendo Switch 2, which was released last year in June. Pokémon Winds and Pokémon Waves will be the tenth generation of the Pokémon game series. The new games will be open world in an archipelago region inspired by Southeast Asia. The two open worlds will include many environments such as islands, jungles, and oceans. Along with these environments, volcanic areas, swamps, coral reefs and more will be included within these areas of exploration. The games will allow land and water exploration, and possibly underwater exploration too. Pokémon Winds and Pokémon Waves seem to be mostly focused on water exploration, with mechanics such as surfing and diving in the oceans of the region, and more in depth underwater exploration.
As with every Pokémon game, there are new starters. Pokémon Winds and Pokémon Waves Showed the three starters in the announcement. The Fire Type, Pombon, the Grass Type, Browt, and the Water Type, Gecqua. Pombon has the design of a pomeranian, Browt as a bird, and Gecqua as a gecko. Pombon consists mostly of orange with a large head, quadrepedal, a fluffy coat and hints of red resembling fire. Browt has a base color of yellow with tiny wings and green leaves as eyebrows. Gecqua has a colorway of different blues and a purple, and a water drop shaped tail. People in the Pokémon community have different views on the starters, and have already begun to predict their final evolution types. As for the most agreed on final evolution types, the Pokémon community wants a Grass/Ground type for Browt, Fire/Ghost type for Pombon, and Water/Psychic type for Gecqua. The starters’ final evolutions have not been shown yet, but hopefully their types and evolution design have been put up to the community’s standards.
