Most horror web series come from a twisting of ideas they found interesting. Titles like the Mandela Catalogue inspiration from religion and the Walten Files take inspiration from Five Nights at Freddy’s. This is the same for Monument Mythos, which takes inspiration from American history to craft its story.
The Monument Mythos was created by Eve Casanas with the first episode of the series being posted on YouTube on September 26, 2020. The series is confusing to start talking about if you don’t really know what the main idea of it is. With that stated, Casanas has done a beautiful job of essentially making a universe in which certain historical events happen in the world that did not actually happen here in the real world. These events frame a world in which the government is doing certain actions like putting people into certain monuments in history. An example of this in the first season is with the reveal that people have been put in the base of the Statue of Liberty and the government has been saying that the original designer creates a bigger and bigger base every year and he doesn’t know why. Yet, it’s later said people hear sounds coming from the base when they are close by. Also in the first season, it’s found that Mount Rushmore had something emerge out of it so the park that is responsible for the sculpture started putting baby power or something that smelled like baby powder on the heads of the sculptures that combated it. One more thing that shows even more that this series is founded on false historical events is the fact that in this version of U.S. history the 37th president wasn’t Richard Milhous Nixon, rather it was James Dean and apparently everyone loved him aside from the Anti-Dean Association (ADA), which just makes the series even funnier to look at sometimes.
There is no one answer to what the series is overall about. There are many that believe the series is about how the government in the series is involved with secret experiments or operations that put people into different monuments. But, even that has holes in it if you look at different points in the series. There is no clear answer for the series and the series has been over since early 2024 with the last episode being released on February 22 of that year. Even with that though, there is still a dedicated fan base to the series that enjoy exploring different elements of the series to see if they could mean something else that creates a new theory overall.
