On April 16th, the American singer and songwriter d4vd (pronounced as David) was arrested on suspicion of the murder of Celeste Rivas Hernandez. Last year on September 8th 2025, 14 year old Celeste Hernandez’s body was discovered in Los Angeles, California, inside the front trunk of a Tesla registered under the name of David Anthony Burke, also known as d4vd. 

From Lake Elsinore, California, Celeste Hernandez was a 14 year old girl. Hernandez was reported missing three times at Riverside County Sheriff’s Office before her death. She ran away in April 2024 and contacted her family last in May 2024. Hernandez was confirmed alive in camera footage of September 2024 and January 2025. 

After the finding of Hernandez’s body, photos of David Burke (d4vd) and Celeste Hernandez together were released. Celeste’s mother revealed that Celeste had a boyfriend named David, and that Celeste and David had matching tattoos. Celeste’s brother told a news channel in Los Angeles, NBCLA, that Celeste went missing after being picked up by a Tesla. Many sources show that Hernandez and Burke met through the internet, and met in person in a rental. In summer of 2024, when Rivas was reported missing, d4vd was in a state of “a song crisis” and an anonymous user replied with, “Drop the one with the missing girl Celeste Rivas Hernandez.” David Burke did not respond back to the message.

In September of 2025, LAPD identified the body as Celeste Rivas Hernandez through forensic examination. Since the body was found in a state of decomposition, identifying the time of death was difficult but, investigators told news channels that she may have died around spring of 2025. The case is still ongoing, but as of now, April 2026, there have been no charges filed against anyone.
