Though this idea seems ridiculous, all of the flamethrower units sold out in less than three days. As one may expect, this product received some criticism. People voiced their opinions on many social media platforms. They argued that these weapons are illegal, or that they are too dangerous to sell in general. Musk has marketed this as the “world’s safest flamethrower,” and he had even stated that his flamethrower is perfectly legal. In a twitter post Musk explained, “ATF says any flamethrower with a flame shorter than 10 ft. is A-ok. Our design is max fun for least danger. I’d be way more scared of a steak knife.”

Elon Musk already has a net worth of over $20 billion, most of which was acquired from selling Tesla cars. The $10 million that was earned from the sale of this product definitely adds to that sum, but most people believe that Musk started selling these flamethrowers for fun rather than for money. Since the release of this limited time item, Musk has released additional information on the tool. He stated that it comes with a free Boring Company fire extinguisher. He also said that each flamethrower has a serial number from 1 to 20,000, making each one unique. Though Elon Musk works mainly on space travel and futuristic electric cars, he also likes to have some fun every once in a while.
