    Lindy Cares Youth Summit

Lindy Cares is an organization for the town of Lindenhurst that advocates for student leadership and drug prevention. The organization arranged a Youth Summit run by students and faculty, a field trip open to both Lindenhurst High School and Middle School students. Students were excused from their classes as the field trip took place during the entirety of the school day. Transportation was provided to the venue where the event took place, Chateau La Mer, on October 10th.

Lindy cares has the goal of prioritizing both the physical and mental health of students. The Youth Summit allowed participants to have a fun experience while also learning how to be the best version of themselves. They were given a chance to learn about passion, leadership, and why they have the biggest roles in changing the world right now. Students were reminded of the great power that they have to make the world a better place in any way they choose.

The day entailed fun workshops, opportunities to work with peers, social time, and an amazing keynote speaker, DeMarco Fomby, who motivated the attending young adults with his inspiring and fun speech. The words of DeMarco were truly a wonderful way to start the day before going into workshops and taking on the rest of the day! The workshops included were meant to make kids feel comfortable discussing issues like mental health and mental illness as well as offer support. A safe environment was created and the students were surrounded by love and people they could turn to. Two of the most notable activities that were offered included when the students created and decorated their own personal journals and when they played a game with cards that involved choosing words that meant the most to them.

After students were given a chance to experience each activity, they were served an amazing lunch with an array of options. There was also a raffle that the students participated in where they were given a chance to win prizes if their number was picked. Overall, the Youth Summit was an exceptional event that provided an enjoyable anti-stress day for both students and adults.
