Juno Has Aged Well

Juno Has Aged Well

The early 2000s was a great era for many well respected movies to come out. This was specially true when it came to movies marketed to teens such as “Mean Girls” and “Superbad.” One of these movies that had came out in this time was Juno.  Juno‘s plot varied from other movies that had come out at this time. Juno’s plot has the main character, Juno Macguff, get pregnant from her best friend, Paulie Bleeker. Juno chooses to give birth to the child and give it to an adoptive family due to the fact shes in high school.

There’s much more that happens in the story of course with the adoptive family and the relationship that Juno ends up having with the adoptive father. But what really captivated many people about the movie for that time was the story itself. It is a surprise that Juno came out as good as it did, considering how heavy the subject matter is for such a light hearted movie. Taking such a heavy topic is already a hard task, but the movie navigates that topic in an endearing way.

Even the movie’s characters hold it beautifully today. Juno Macguff is an easy character to make very unlikable in a story like this. Throughout the movie, she is extremely witty and rarely takes her situations seriously. However, the movie makes you still care for her character by the performance from Elliot Page and the writer Diablo Cody, making sure throughout all this that you care and sympathize with her character. Everyone in this movie slips into their role even with the more recognizable faces in the cast such as Micheal Cera and Jason Bateman. Juno is a beautifully crafted movie that deserves to be remembered.
