Rising Tensions Between China and Taiwan

The United States of America is often known as playing the “policeman” role in global affairs. They are taking international challenges into their own hands.

A progressing issue that demands attention is the Cross-Strait Conflict. This conflict demonstrated the ongoing tensions between the People’s Republic of China (PRC) and the Republic of China (ROC, commonly known as Taiwan) in relation to territorial jurisdiction and control of the Taiwan Strait. Overtime, tensions have escalated, creating a hostile relationship between the two countries. Given the significant global turmoil occurring in modern times, the American populace is conflicted on whether to engage in the Cross-Strait Conflict or remain aloof. However, it is imperative for America to become engaged in this issue. This is due to the fact that Taiwan is of great importance to the US coupled with the adverse consequences of China’s increasing power through gaining control over Taiwan.

There are opposing viewpoints disputing that America already faces numerous challenges in global affairs. There has been a long history concerning the relations between Taiwan, China and the US. Though as time has progressed the tensions have risen, causing for there to be more probable reasons to why the US should officially become involved in supporting Taiwan. The ROC holds great importance for the US, it is the area where the mass production of electronic chips occurs, which is very crucial to the economy. Additionally, Taiwan is a crucial representation of democratic success in the Asian-Pacific region, and their location is immensely important in connecting America with their allies.

This is all leads up to China taking over Taiwan, however this would cause China to become the dominant global power. The world would face multifaceted challenges, in the event that such an event would occur. Not only would it intensify political competition between China and America, but it also poses economic threats, potentially leading to a global economic depression. Furthermore, there are grave humanitarian concerns, particularly in regard to human rights violations and aggressive military tactics. There are many fears that come along with the idea of becoming involved in this serious matter.
