There are some movies that are really good and have been talked about for ages and loved by many. On the other hand you have movies that were very hit or miss so here’s a short list of movies containing the good, the bad and the very ugly.
The good
The Godfather (1972)
In the opinion of many The Godfather is one of few legendary films of all time. The Godfather has a three 175 minute run time, immaculate cinematography and an everlasting impact on film media and culture.
Despite it being over fifty years of age, the movie is still brought into the conversation of possibly being the best mafia themed movie or just one of the best movies in general.
The bad
Grease (1978)
Along with a catchy soundtrack and horrible life lessons Grease is a movie where you either love it or hate it. For starters, peer pressure seems to be a huge theme in this movie. This isn’t a huge surprise considering it was the 70’s, but its also been brought into controversy because of the actors ages vs the age of their characters. The youngest actor was twenty three years old as of the time of filming, but was supposed to be an eighteen year old high schoolers… awkward. With the actors being older than the characters they are supposed to be portraying, this gave a false view of how teenagers look and act.
And the ugly
The Notebook (2004)
Although arguably one of the “best romcoms” ever, The Notebook promotes some bittersweet behaviour. Noah (played by Ryan Gosling) and Allie (played by Rachel McAdams) are often described as the “perfect couple,” however it doesn’t seem that way. In The Notebook, while Noah is trying to persuade Allie he threatened to jump from a ferris wheel if she didn’t go out with him. I mean sure it seems cute in the movie, but if someone did that in real life major red flag. The relationship was never healthy to begin with- all they do is fight and within these arguments. Allie usually hits Noah and then they start making out. Despite it being a romcom, we don’t know much about the couple. The film portrayal of Alzheimer’s is also false. For example: with dementia or Alzheimer’s it is likely to have some issues comprehending certain things like features or memories of your loved ones; however, storytelling can sometimes help yet it can’t magically make you remember everything.
