Inter Miami made history this weekend December 6, 2025 winning the MLS Cup for the first time after 3-1 victory over Vancouver Whitecaps at Chase Stadium in Fort Lauderdale. Lionel Messi has guided the club to its first ever MLS championship finishing off a dramatic playoff run and adding another trophy to his legendary career. 

Miami defeated the western conference champions Vancouver Whitecaps 3-1 in the final. Although Lionel Messi didn’t score in the final match, his impact was apparent. He gave two crucial assists: one to Rodrigo De Paul and another one to Tadeo Allende in stoppage time to seal the victory. His performance earned him the MLS CUP 2025 MVP (presented by Audi) award. This title adds to Messi’s already incredible personal trophy haul. With this win he claims another major trophy and further cements his legacy even as his career continues in the MLS.

This win is really meaningful for Miami- the club struggled in its early years and finished last in MLS before Messi arrived. Just two seasons later they have gone from rebuilding project to champions of the league. This victory also boosts the profile of MLS worldwide as Messi success continues to draw more people and more attention to the league. 

Inter Miami will now look ahead to next season with high expectations hoping to defend their title and build on the foundation Messi helped create. They created history.
