Four Santos decided to make the world their stage when they all came together as Los Tinellers in 1993. But they had only released their first album, Generation Next, in 1999, they didn’t have their breakthrough until their second album—We Broke The Rules— until 2002. To this day, very few fans recognize them as Los Tinellers. However, they paved the way to the traditional Dominican bachata by blending it with elements of R&B, hip-hop, and reggaeton. They became a global hit in Dominican Republic, The United States, France, and Italy—topping in charts such as Billboard Hot Latin Song and billboard Top Latin Albums. 18 years later, since 2011 when they split apart, they foster 22.6 million monthly listeners on Spotify. This is because they changed their bachata band name three years later, in 1996,; now, the world knows them as Aventura!
It’s a common belief that neither the bachata dance moves or genre of music wouldn’t be where it is today if it weren’t for Aventura. One second it was a marginalized, traditional Dominican genre, and the next it was a globally recognized, mainstream Latin music style within a blink of an eye. The bachata genre originated in the Dominican Republic after the end of the Trujillo dictatorship in 1961. The road to freedom was long and rough though—it was a complex and unstable transition period that included a power struggle, a civil war, U.S. intervention, and a bumpy path toward democracy. But music was a constant companion to the citizens, with romantic, bittersweet, lyrics that demenstrated the current of the country. The radio, however, was the music’s partner in crime. Slowly, from one ear to another, people began to identify they type of music they snag their worries and hopes to as the bachata. Along with instruments, such as the requinto, rhythm guitar, bass guitar, bongos, and the güira.
In the early 20’s, Aventura flipped peoples’ world upside down by defining what Bachata could truly be by infusing it with elements that they grew up loving. And those four members are….
The Santos brothers:
Lenny Santos ~ Born on October 24, 1979, in the Bronx, New York City, to Dominican parents. He attended South Bronx High School, where he experimented with music genres alongside his brother, Max Santos; however, he has five other siblings. He later attended Morris High School, where he met the other two members of Aventura. He had several roles in the band, including lead and rhythm guitarist, co-founder, producer, and musical director. In joining the Aventura group, he was credited with pushing the boundaries of what bachata could be. He is widely recognized as the creator and pioneer of the “urban bachata” sound, known for fusing the traditional genre with elements of R&B, hip-hop, and pop.
Max Santos ~ Born on January 30, 1982, in the Bronx, New York City, to Dominican parents. He grew up with six brothers. At the age of 12, he discovered a passion for the bass guitar after borrowing one from his school. Subsequently, he began experimenting a varity of music genres with his older brother, Lenny Santos. Max later became a founding member of the influential bachata group Aventura, where he served as the bassist, rapper, and music arranger. He is particularly recognized for his expertise in blending a tasteful slap bass technique into the traditional sound of Dominican bachata.

Romeo Santos ~ Born on July 21, 1981, in the Bronx, New York. He is the son of a Dominican father, who worked in construction as well as a taxi driver, and a Puerto Rican mother, who was a homemaker. He has one older sister, Laura Santos, who is nine years his senior. Santos’s interest in music began at the age of 13 after he was exposed to singing in church. His passion further developed when he discovered a cassette tape by an artist who shared his last name, Anthony Santos. This burgeoning interest eventually led him to become the lead vocalist, primary songwriter, and co-producer of the internationally successful bachata group, Aventura.
Henry Santos ~ Born December 15, 1979, in Moca, Dominican Republic, and moved to the Bronx, New York City, in his early teens. He grew up with a passion for Bachata and Merengue because it’s what he grew up listening to. When he moved, he sang in his church’s choir. He became an American citizen at age 17 and legally changed his last name to Jeter (which became his middle name) because he was a fan of baseball player Derek Jeter of the New York Yankees, making his name Henry Santos Jeter. In the band Aventura, which he created with his cousin and two friends, he had the roles of backing vocalist, songwriter, and producer.
With each member having unique and individual experiences, they wove parts of their lives into their lyrics that appealed to young and older audiences, English and Spanish speakers, and Americans and Europeans. Below are five of their most popular tracks:

Then, while in the midst of their careers—after the launch of their studio album, The Last, in 2009–they went on a hiatus. The members, particularly the lead singer, Romeo Santos, wanted to branch out and experience the life of a solo artist in 2011. Thankfully, they each had individual success. But a hiatus is worlds apart from a break, which is why in the last 14 years all the members have gathered for tours as as Aventura. The Inmortal Tour (2020-2021), and the most recent Cerrando Ciclos Tour (2024-2025). Additionally, they had a series of short shows in NYC—the Aventura Reunion In NYC (2016).
Now, Aventura is done for good. No more songs in albums—no more concerts in tourss. What fans could do now is admire the mark they made upon bachata, respect their decisions, and support them on their solar careers. However, there are other artist that, just might, compare to Aventura, like Prince Royce or / and Anthony Santos, perhaps?
