I was making a list for an assignment describing the Top 5 Artists for last year when I had the idea for an article about an artist in the list I’d made. I thought to myself, who would be the best artist out of them to write about considering I should know a lot about these five already. That’s when I’d decided on the artist who really stuck with me the most out of the list, Childish Gambino. Donald Glover, Also known as Childish Gambino is a musical artist, comedian, actor, writer, and has taken on many other professions typically involving entertainment. I’d say he excels in all of these areas but I also want to delve into the history of how he even came to do all these things. He started out writing during high school in DeKalb County, later graduating from the New York University Tisch School of arts with a degree in dramatic writing. He then self produced a mixtape called The Younger I Get with Drake which he did not release. Following those events he sent some drafts in and got the job to write for the NBC program 30 Rock. He wrote for 3 years on that show from 2006-2009, and played in various other shows afterwards.

Later in 2013 he became the executive producer of the music themed show “Atlanta” for FX.

He also played a character in the show who is a Princeton dropout who manages his rapper cousin in the beginning. He received multiple awards for the show including an Emmy for Outstanding Directing of a Comedy Series. That made him the first black person ever to receive an Emmy for that category. He also was reached out to by Spiderman Series creators to play Aaron Davis who he had earlier voice acted in Marvel’s Ultimate Spiderman. Aaron Davis is a criminal who is also the uncle of another iteration of spiderman. He appears in two different movies as this character, Spiderman Homecoming, and Spiderman: Across the Spiderverse.

In addition he had an extensive music career starting in 2008 at 25 years old. In late 2024 he had to cancel the remaining shows for his “The New World Tour” due to complications pertaining to a stroke which he required surgery for.

In conclusion, Donald Glover also known as Childish Gambino is a greatly accomplished man who has expertise in many areas. He has entertained many and definitely made an impression on me and many.
