After 12 to 13 years of Nintendo users begging and waiting for another Tomodachi Life, the next game has been announced and is available for preorder right now! Tomodachi Life, known as Tomodachi Collection: New Life, was released in Japan on April 18, 2013, then a year later was released in other countries on June 6th, 2014. In the first Tomodachi Life, the player creates Miis and sets them to live their new life on an island. The player can create the Mii’s personalities and the game can set them into categories based on traits. The player can also create their voice pitches, accents, and so on.The Miis can befriend eachother, fight with eachother, get in relationships and even get married and move in together. These many actions are not influenced by the player completely, but the player can encourage or discourage the Miis before making a decision such as confessing, making up, and many more.
Moving on to the upcoming game, Tomodachi Life: Living the Dream, which has been announced to release April 16th, this year (2026). This sequel will be available on both the Nintendo Switch and the Switch 2, with possibly more updates on the second generation. As for the new features of Tomodachi Life, Mii and their personality customization, island and building customization, and story and gameplay has been upgraded. For Mii customization, there are more hair styles, skin colors, face options and the option of a nonbinary gender and romantic preferences. Miis can obtain quirks and phrases, and new personality types have been added. When building your island, a quick build mode has been added where users can buy and place your items to decorate, and users can also move buildings and create designs for them. Miis can also move in with eachother once they’re at a level of friendship, and users can rewatch the news whenever.
