With weather being inconsistent throughout the month of March, people still haven’t been really going out as much. Plus the increase in people getting sick now, it’s made people want to go even less outside then they already did. Due to this, moving around is something most people haven’t been actively doing which is a shame considering how important it really is. The Mayo Clinic mentions in their article,”What are the risks of sitting too much?”, that sitting for a long amount of time can lead to obesity, increased blood pressure, high blood sugar, and an excess of body fat around the waist. So with that said, how can people still actively move, stay at home, and save money all at the same time? My answer to that is yoga.
Yoga combines physical, mental, and spiritual practices all in one and isn’t that complex. There are many forms of yoga, whether Kundalini, Vinyasa, Hatha, Yin, etc. Still, you don’t need to master one in order to then switch to another one. You don’t even really need to master one at all, you could always try out a variety of styles and see which one most benefits you in the end. Even with all these different yoga types, they all pretty much end with you trying to strengthen your physical and mentally. Physically, yoga involves a lot of stretching out certain muscles that you may have not really thought of or knew how to stretch out before. From taking the class for almost 2 years now, I have personally enjoyed how much the back is focused on in a lot of practices from lengthening and just stretching. It has helped me a lot personally and has made my back not feel as tight as it once did. Another huge part of yoga is being mentally present with your practices. This involves controlling your thoughts when meditating later on in your practices. As well as learning to focus better on the thoughts that matter for that present moment you are actively in. Which in theory sounds easy, but in practice it is a lot harder to not have the mind wander off for 5 to 15 minutes. Even then though, when you master it, it is worth celebrating and being proud of.
Overall, I believe yoga can be challenging if you are willing to push yourself. However, I do believe it really doesn’t have to be. There are millions of videos for beginners about the form of exercise that show simple yet effective routines if you’re just getting into it. If you have never tried yoga before, I would really recommend it if you aren’t a sports person or just bored at home and need to move a bit. Hopefully from that one practice, you will understand its benefits quickly.
